Structure Name:
Newcastle Quay
- Description:
- The Newcastle Quay runs from the Fish Quay (near the Swing Bridge) in the west to around 525 metres east of the mouth of the Ouseburn, covering a total of 2025 metres. In 1934 the quay provided 26 berths serviced by five steam travelling cranes, a double railway line, 16 single storey sheds and 1 two storey shed.
Today many of the industrial features associated with the quay (i.e. the cranes, sheds and railway) have disappeared, instead the quay is now a focal point for Newcastle's nightlife and property development.
