Forename(s): Ronald W.

Surname(s): Pearce

Date of Birth: 1914

Date of Death: 1989

Notes

Ronald W. Pearce was born in 1914 at Norton on Tees, County Durham. He moved to Newcastle as a child and was one of the first pupils to be educated at Heaton Grammar School.

During WWII he volunteered and spent five years service in Burma and India on secondment to the Indian Army, serving as a Warrant Officer in the Intelligence Corp. On his return to civilian life he became a member of RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and worked in Newcastle on varying projects including several public buildings and football grounds.

A keen amateur photographer, Ronald Pearce spent a great deal of his leisure time recording historical sites in the region, particularly border strongholds, in which he had a special interest. This collection of images was compiled as research for a publication Ronald Pearce intended to write on the subject.
