Newcastle's Dark Secret

The SINE Project team underground.

Voyage of Discovery

On a cold, blustery day in January 2004 three members of the SINE team braved the deep snowdrifts and high winds to make their way to an old industrial area of Newcastle in the Ouseburn Valley. Equipped only with sturdy boots, hard hats, torches and a packet of digestive biscuits they set out to explore one of Newcastle's best kept secrets - the Victoria Tunnel.

[Note: At the time of writing (2004) the tunnel is not open to the public]
