Introduction

When did you last visit the countryside? Perhaps you live there. If so you may be familiar with some of the buildings and other structures which can help us learn more about the natural landscape and its history.

If you have been lucky enough to fly in an aeroplane or if you have ever stood on top of a hill or mountain you will have had a bird's eye view of the landscape below. What did you see?

• Did you notice the different colours, textures, shapes and patterns in the landscape?
• Have you considered how walls, fields, hedges, waste spaces and waterways play a part in the natural landscape?
