Centre Stage
Over the last sixty years the North East of England's structural heritage has taken centre stage thanks to interest from film makers the world over. It is estimated that around eight hundred productions have been filmed in the North East region during this time. One of the earliest films to be partly filmed on location in Newcastle was ‘On the Night of the Fire' in 1938 starring Sir Ralph Richardson.
More recently Hollywood has come to the region with the making of epic films such as ‘Elizabeth' and blockbusters like ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' and ‘Alien:3'. Many Hollywood stars including Richard Burton, Michael Caine, Kate Winslet and Tommy Lee Jones have shared the big screen with some of the region's finest (and lesser known) architectural gems.
