Iconic Structures of the North East

Icons

Structures have an incredibly important role to play in the identity of an area. Think for a moment how the Eiffel Tower is instantly associated with Paris, Big Ben with London, the Golden Gate Bridge with San Francisco or the Sydney Opera House with Sydney. These structures are so well known they have achieved iconic status. They have become symbols of the cities they are associated with.

The North East of England region also has its fair share of iconic structures. Today most people will recognise the statue of the Angel of the North, or Hadrian's Wall or even the Tyne Bridge. These structures are an inextricable part of the region's identity, history and culture.
