Structural Images of the North East

Browse by map

If you wish to look for images relating to a certain area, you can use the SINE mapping facility to browse. You can click on the map and use the control panel on the right of the screen to select and move around an area, zoom in or out on the map, and show the locations of structures in the SINE collection.

The area marked in green on the 1:1600000 scale map is the approximate geographical coverage of the SINE collection, although some of the structures in the database lie just outside of this zone.

To zoom in/out: On the right of the screen there are a number of navigation buttons. When the button marked zoom in is highlighted (click to highlight) in grey, clicking on the map will zoom in, using the point you clicked on as a centre. When the zoom out button is highlighted, clicking on the map will zoom out from the point you clicked on. You can also zoom in and out from a single point by changing the map scale in the drop-down menu on the right, headed ‘Scale’.

To navigate: All maps except the 1:1600000 scale can be navigated. Clicking on a point of the compass to the right of the screen will shift the map screen some distance in that direction. If the re-centre button is highlighted in grey (click to highlight), clicking on a map will re-centre it at that point.

To search, you can search the map in two ways:

  • Select a search radius from the drop-down menu above the map. When you click on a point on the map, you will see a search results page displaying all images of structures within the selected radius of that point.
  • Clicking the show all button will reveal a red dot for each structure in the image collection. Holding the cursor over a red dot will reveal the name of the structure, its location, and the structure type. Clicking on a dot will show all the available images containing that structure. Clicking the accuracy button will show in yellow the area in which the structure is believed to be.
